The 1000 ml container of Tropical Marine Power Advanced KH/Alkalinity is a state of the art, self-preparation marine additive meant to raise the level of KH/Alkalinity (bicarbonate level) within marine aquariums. Designed specifically for larger tanks that are primarily inhabited by stony corals. Alkalinity is one of the most important components to a healthy saltwater environment, but unlike in nature, where the levels are at a near constant, home aquaria suffers from frequent flucuations that are detrimental to the well being of the aquarium ecosystem. In a healthy marine aquarium the level of the bicarbonate ions (HCO3-) is constantly decreasing. Bicarbonate ions are the main source of building material for coral skeletons, the basic component of which is calcium carbonate CaCO3. It is necessary for corals growth to keep appropriate and consistent level of KH (bicarbonates). The natural alkalinity level on coral reefs is approximately 7 dKH. In the majority of domestic aquaria, the level of KH should be kept as constant as possible between 7 and 10 dKH. It is not recommended to raise KH levels too high or too quickly, because it can be dangerous for LPS and SPS coral species and it can also negatively affect biofiltration in aquarium. Frequent water testing will help maintain consistent accurate values.
