Virginia Woman Euthanized Healthy Dog
Over the last few days there has been buzz about a Virginia Women euthanizing her dog so it could be buried with her. This controversial act has been stirring up pet sympathizers across the globe. In Virginia while it is not illegal to euthanize a health pet it is a moral issue.
Emma was reportedly taken to a vet to be put down and after that taken to a cremation center in Richmond, Virginia. Pets are considered property in Virginia and the owner can euthanize a healthy pet if they so wish. However, doing so puts the vet in an ethical dilemma where if they don’t euthanize humanely the owner might resort to other means to put down their dog.
What Can We Do?
Rather than focusing on a decision to make choosing a side you stand on. We need to start making changes by passing legislation that an owner can’t put down a pet without a medical reason or due to old age. It is unfair for a pet to lose its life & it is unethical to have a veterinarian make a choice to euthanize a pet simply because the owner wants him to.
